On October 17, Salford College of Further Education will launch their Centre of Excellence in Construction and Engineering, at their City Skills campus.
The college has invested substantially in creating real-life working environments, to best prepare students for employment. They are an accredited BPEC Gas Training Centre, an accredited Whirlpool Training Centre, and the only Worcester Bosch Gold Linked College in Greater Manchester.
Further to this, they have added a motor vehicle course to their portfolio and this year have invested in a brand new, state-of-the-art motor vehicle workshop. Staff have extensive technical experience and well established industry links with partners across the region.
As well as boasting a whole host of full-time college courses, Salford College also offer apprenticeship pathways, enabling students to gain industry experience, all whilst achieving a relevant qualification. Adam McHaffie, an electrical apprentice, won Apprentice of the Year for in 2015/16, and the department holds the Greater Manchester Colleges Group award for plumbing.
Many students have gained employment in construction and some have gone on to start their own, successful businesses.
Students are given the opportunity to participate in work experience placements, competitions and a wide variety of trips and visits that both broaden their knowledge and develop their confidence in their chosen field. This year students attended the NEC Construction Trade Fair, providing them with important networking opportunities, and Worcester Bosch, for exclusive training on gas boilers.
